Join Janis Lacey Ellison for a 3 day workshop designed to teach the student methods to start and complete a successful pastel painting. Demonstrations and individual attention at the easel create an environment where the beginner and the advanced student will feel free to explore and experiment. Techniques will include under painting and application of pastel to create winning paintings.

The 3 day workshop will help the student learn to simplify the subject with value thumbnail sketches massing shapes and values and using tools to assist with composition and drawing.

The instructor will share how she uses her plein air paintings, digital photos, and kinesthetic memory to develop larger studio pastel paintings. Discussions will include equipment, pastel techniques and strokes, variety of pastel papers and framing pastels. Limit 15 students.

Learn how to create beautiful pastel paintings in a supportive, creative learning environment. Beginners and Intermediate students welcome. Class covers all the basics including paper selection, types of pastel and their uses, and techniques of application. Strong Composition, Use of Value Contrast, Landscape Aerial Perspective, and Secrets in painting dramatic skies are all shared freely with students. Demonstrations weekly followed by instruction at the easel.

About the Instructor:

J. Lacey Ellison is an award-winning signature Pastel Artist (SPS) who is represented by Northern California

fine art galleries. Her works depict the beauty and spirit of the landscape. Janis provides workshops and instruction in the Pastel medium. She is a professional Artist who shares her passion and vision of nature’s landscape with her students and collectors.
